Scott Ogden took victory in a closely fought contest in the first British Talent Cup race of the season. He took the chequered flag finishing 0.102 seconds ahead of Brian Hart. Both riders managed to overtake Cameron Horsman through Brooklands Corner on the final lap. Horsman completed the rostrum just 0.002 seconds back from Hart.

Pole Position

Ogden took pole position earlier today with a lap time of 1:01.854, with Fenton Seabright second and Jack Hart third. Brian Hart had qualified 6th and Cameron Horsman seventh.

Ogden didn’t look like he made the best start from the line. But hemanaged to take the lead into the first corner, closely followed by Fenton Seabright. Charlie Atkins made a superb start as he came through from fifth on the grid to third. Cameron Horsman went up to fourth.

The lead was then contested by Jack Hart, Cameron Horsman, Charlie Farrer, Scott Ogden and Rhys Irwin in the early stages of the race, although they were part of a large group of riders at the head of the race.

Jack Nixon lost the front on the fifth lap and unfortunately crashed through Luffields.

Seabright, who had also been challenging at the front, had his race cut short when another rider ran into his Wilson Racing European Talent Cup teammate Jack Hart, and took them both out. Hart had shown great pace in the opening laps, including leading the race for a time.

Horsman managed to get to the front of the race and opened a six-tenths of a second gap but was quickly chased down. Scott Ogden, who had always been in the hunt at the front, was then forced wide on lap 20. As a result, he dropped down to eighth place with seven laps remaining. Undeterred he fought back to regain the race lead on lap 25.

A close finish

On the last lap there was a train of nine riders all battling for three spots on the podium. Horsman was leading as they approached Luffields for the final time. However, Ogden and then Brian Hart forced themselves down the inside and as the raced on to the line Ogden took the chequered flag. It was his first British Talent Cup victory. Brian Hart managed to hold off Horsman crossing the line two-thousandths of a second ahead of the Londoner. Charlie Farrer finished fourth, by far his best result in the competition and bodes well for him this season.

Out of the rookies this year Torin Collins came home first, finishing in tenth place.
