We had a great weekends racing Bennetts British Superbike Championship Motostars Standard at Oulton Park this bank holiday. Despite the many problems we had, from broken down race truck to bike engine swaps, and missing a session, the team were awesome and pulled it altogether for me qualifying 9th in the wet but drying conditions. It left me confident but at a little disappointed, as I missed the window to go full slicks.
British Motostar Race Saturday
But Saturday’s race was great fun, battling for 9th to 6th initially, in group with a couple of open class bikes we swapped positions quite a few times. But I got stuck behind an open bike after a mistake and lost the standard bikes ahead after getting past him. There were not enough laps left to make it back up. But P9 matched my best result in motostars so far, and consistently set my fastest laps round the Oulton Park track.
British Motostar Race Sunday
Sunday’s race was just as much fun, but a little closer. Again battling with the guys for 6/7/8th and an open bike, really felt good but just kept being overtaken on the straights by the open, and held up in the corners. It was the same for everyone in the standard class. I got a bit too frustrated trying to take the open into Shell Oils and ran wide. By the time I’d past the open and gapped him the standard guys had got away, and I finished 8th. Again improving on the lap time, but ultimately a little disappointed not to have gone with the standards ahead.
All in all though really positive. The fastest I’ve ever been round Oulton and my two best finishes in Motostar so far. And I’m 7th in the championship!
