As the first rookie home in both British Talent Cup races, Torin Collins was the pick of the new riders at Silverstone.
The sun shone all weekend as spectators dressed in shorts and t-shirts took in the first round of the British Superbike Championship. Torin Collins was one of the new boys to the British Talent Cup this season. There are eleven in all. He collected ten points over the weekend with a tenth place finish in race one and a twelfth in race two.
In the first race he finished in tenth, nine seconds ahead of the closest rookie rival. He battled with Harvey Claridge for more than half the race.
On the ninth lap, Claridge overtook Collins but the former Canadian Champion continued to keep pace with Claridge. He was on the back of the leading group battling all the way down to tenth place.
An error in turn five, on the 19th lap of 28, saw Collins run off the circuit after hitting a false neutral. He managed to stay onboard and returned to the tarmac. Unfortunately, the incident meant he had lost touch with the leading group.
Having lost the group his lap times dropped a little but he had plenty of margin over the chasing riders. Collins went on to cross the finish line 10th overall making an excellent start to his British Talent Cup season.
In the second race of the weekend he again was the leading rookie but this time it was much tighter. He led Corey Tinker and Jamie Lyons across the finish line. The three were separated by just 0.274 seconds.
In the first few laps, Torin Collins was running behind Tinker crossing the start-finish line ahead of him on lap four. The two were locked together with Tinker ahead of Collins on lap eight. Then on the eleventh lap, Collins ran off track after
Collins found himself in a group of five riders. He managed to pass Will Lathrope and Harry Leigh on lap twelve before moving by Osian Jones and Jamie Lyons a lap later. He was still 2.4 seconds behind Tinker at the halfway stage of the race. As he tried to catch Tinker in front he was still in a battle with Lathrope, Osian Jones, Lyons
Torin Collins had recovered the gap between him and Tinker by lap 22. The following lap he overtook Tinker and moved into 12th position in the race. But Corey Tinker didn’t just roll over. Tinker cross the finish line ahead on lap 24.
With three laps remaining Osian Jones and Will Lathrope tangled leaving Tinker, Collins and Lyons with a gap over Harry Leigh.
On the penultimate lap, Collins and Lyons managed to overtake Tinker but there was little in it. Tinker re-took Lyons on the final lap but Collins held on to hold both off as they crossed the line, to take 12th spot.
