Eugene McManus has fond memories of Donington Park. In 2018 he rode in the Hel Performance British Motostar championship. However, with the newly formed British Talent Cup taking that categories track time at Donington Park last year, he slipped across onto a Moto2 machine to take part that weekend. In the second race he finished first in the British GP2 class and 16th overall.

This time out he will be riding in the British Supersport category which competes with the GP2 machines, although they score points in their respective championships. So far he has done well in his rookie season on the Yamaha R6. He is 15th in the series with a top ten result in the last round at Oulton Park.

This weekend the riders are on the Donington National circuit which means they will miss out the Melbourne loop. The 1.96 mile national circuit has the rider turn right at turn nine and then quickly left onto the Wheatcroft straight whereas the longer Grand Prix circuit has them ride through the Esses, down to the Melbourne Hairpin and back up to turn twelve Goddards, before hitting the start-finish straight.

Eugene McManus Junior

” Last year we went out on a Moto2 machine and we came away with a win! This year in the Supersport class I’m not expecting that yet, but the team did a great job to get me inside the top ten at Oulton Park, so we go to Donington in a very positive frame of mind.”
