Izan Guevara (Cuna de Campeones) overcame the disappointment of a 12 place grid penalty by coming through the field to take victory in the first of two European Talent Cup races in Valencia.
He had set the fastest lap time in qualifying but was penalised after being adjudged to have ridden slowly in five or more sectors. He wasn’t alone but his lap time of 1:43.136 meant he didn’t start on pole but was relegated to the fifth row.
This left Lorenzo Fellon (ZF GP School) on pole with Jose Rueda ( Junior Team Estrella Galicia) and Dirk Geiger alongside. British rider Jack Hart (Wilson Racing) had been superb in qualifying and started the race from fourth position. Fenton Seabright (Wilson Racing) had received a 12 place grid penalty after his part in a finish line crash with Ivan Ortola (Sama Qatar A. Nieto) in Estoril. Ortola was penalised 8 places. Seabright had to start from the middle of row nine next to KRP rider Joshua Whatley.
It was Dirk Geiger (Keifer Racing) that got away quickest closely followed by Daijiro Sako (Cuna de Campeones), Fellon, Diogo Moreira (Junior Team Estrella Galicia). Jack Hart got a bad start and dropped down to eleventh by the end of lap one.
By the end of the fifth lap Fellon was penalised for exceeding track limits. The French rider had run wide of the white line on almost all of the first five laps and had to take a long lap penalty.
At the same time Jack Hart was making stides through the pack as he pushed on into sixth place. Seabright had made his way into 2oth position, whilst Joshua Whatley was 23rd.
Jack Hart leads the race
With eleven laps remaining Jack Hart made up another place as he used the slipstream into turn one. Meanwhile Dirk Geiger took over the race lead. A lap later and Hart was running second in a spectacular recovery from his difficult start. But he hadn’t finished yet. The young Scottish rider then went into the race lead through the last corner.
Unfortunately, British hopes were dashed when Hart crashed out of the race lead a few corners later.
Fermin Aldeguer (Bester Captial Dubai) then took over at the front of the race with Izan Guevara, Daijiro Sako and Dirk Geiger on his tail.
Izan Guevara went on to take the race victory by just under half-a-second from Fermin Aldeguer. Dirk Geiger finished in third place.
Fenton Seabright clawed his way into the points taking two for finishing in 14th. Joshua Whatley was unable to finish the race.
