The 15-year-old from the large town of Letterkenny in County Donegal completed a successful 2018 finishing seventh in the Hel Performance British Motostar standard class series and 16th overall in the British Talent Cup.

The young Irish rider will be in Moto3 action in 2019 once again after retaining the use of the Motorcycle Ireland Moto3 for the BSB championship as well as having been invited back to compete in the second year of the British Talent Cup. Although he wasn’t chosen to ride in the Red Bull Rookies in 2019, he did make the final group of the selection event in Guadix in 2018.

It was only in 2017 that Irwin raced an Aprilia RRV450GP in Thundersport, where he finished third. Already he seems to have made great progress with the smaller and faster Moto3. In the British Motostar series, he only failed to score points in three races. At the final round at Brands Hatch, he bounced back from a broken engine in qualifying, which meant he missed race one, to stand on the podium in race two.

The weather was dreadful. He started race two in nineteenth place at the back of the grid, after not clocking a time in race one. Rather than take it easy on the drenched circuit, he set the second quickest lap of the race and finished third and on the pdoium for the first time on a Moto3.

As part of his winter training programme Irwin has been out in Spain
